Epoxy flooring in Wewoka, Oklahoma on boom-era concrete
Wewoka is the Seminole County seat and the capital of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma, a town of about 3,400 people shaped by one decade. The 1923 Greater Seminole oil boom pushed the population from a few thousand to more than ten thousand in months, and a lot of the shops, warehouses, and storefronts from that rush still stand. Epoxy flooring in Wewoka, Oklahoma is priced at $6.08 to $10.17 a square foot for the installed system. On an old floor the prep decides most of that price.
The Wewoka concrete page covers new driveways and slabs. This page covers what goes on top of the old ones.
What should you check before coating an old Wewoka slab?
Five things, and each one can change the system. A slab from the boom years or the decades after it has had a long life before anyone thought about a coating:
- Pour history. If no one knows when it was poured or what is under it, assume there is no vapor barrier. We take a moisture reading before we quote a coating on a slab like that.
- Oil. Shop and warehouse floors soaked up motor oil, diesel, and grease for years. A coating will not bond to oil, so it has to come out by degreasing and grinding before any resin goes down.
- Old coatings and adhesives. Paint, tile mastic, and carpet glue all have to be ground off. A new coating bonded to an old film is only as strong as the old film’s grip.
- Movement. Wewoka sits on shrink-swell clay weathered from Permian red beds. It swells wet and shrinks dry, and on an old slab that shows up as heaved sections, settled corners, and cracks that open and close with the seasons. We check for heave and repair cracks with epoxy mortar before coating.
- Patches. Decades of repairs leave a floor that is several different concretes in one room. That matters most when you are choosing between a coating and polish.
None of those rule out a coating on their own. They tell us what the prep has to include, and they are why an old-floor quote runs longer on the prep line than on the coating line.
Coating or polish for a downtown Wewoka floor?
Grind a test patch first. Under the old tile or carpet in a county-seat storefront, you find one of two floors. The first is the original slab, sound and fairly even in color. Depending on the stone in the mix, a floor like that can polish into a warm, even finish that suits a building from the 1920s well. Polished concrete there has no topcoat to wear through and no film to lift.
The second is a patchwork: trench cuts from old plumbing, filled holes where equipment once stood, and repair patches poured decades apart. Polishing that floor exposes every patch in a different shade. A resinous coating covers the whole patchwork in one color and one sheen, and in a room that gets mopped, it also closes up the old cracks where dirt collects. We show you the test area and price both paths.
Oil-field support bays and ranch shops
The work around Wewoka still runs on oil-field support, ranching, and agriculture, and the shops behind those businesses need floors that can take lifts, jack stands, dropped parts, and every fluid that drips off working equipment day after day without softening, staining, or lifting at the edges. That is hard use.
For those floors we build a thick 100% solids epoxy base, broadcast aggregate where the floor gets wet, and finish with a chemical-resistant polyaspartic topcoat that holds up to petroleum fluids and does not amber near an open bay door. Ranch shops that park tractors and trailers get the same heavier build under the parking areas. For a new building, Pour-4-Polish runs the pour and the coating under a single specification, with a vapor barrier under any slab headed for a coating.
What does epoxy flooring cost in Wewoka?
Expect $6.08 to $10.17 per square foot, matching what we quote elsewhere in Seminole County. Flake systems run $8.55 to $10.39, and quartz or metallic runs $6.08 to $10.17. For a newer garage slab, most of the price is the system. With a boom-era floor, the prep carries more of it: oil removal, adhesive removal, and crack repair all come before the first coat. The epoxy flooring cost guide walks through how each part adds up.
What if an old coating has already failed?
Find the cause before anyone grinds it off. On old Wewoka floors, a coating that lifts in patches often lifted where oil was left in the slab or where an old adhesive gave way under it. Bubbles pushing up from underneath point to moisture instead. Those are different fixes.
Told your slab is at fault? Read what to check when an installer blames moisture before paying for a redo. What an epoxy floor warranty should say covers who carries the cost. For repair options on an old floor, see epoxy floor repair in the Seminole area.
