About these Stained Concrete flooring projects in Oklahoma

Sixteen jobs make up this stained concrete flooring portfolio. Oklahoma slabs take stain differently depending on mineral composition, moisture content, and surface history, and that variability is the point. The gallery mixes both acid stains (metallic salt formulations that produce translucent earth tones) and water-based stains (acrylic polymer systems offering broader palettes). Acid staining in Oklahoma runs $4 to $8 per square foot; water-based stains run $3 to $7 per square foot, both including surface preparation and sealer.

The 16 projects above include acid-stained warehouse floors with earth-toned washes that complement exposed timber and native stone, water-based residential floors in custom gray and charcoal blends, and multi-color commercial entries matched to brand palettes. Every floor was stained, sealed, and finished by Bel Covo crews working out of Prague, OK, since 2004. No subcontractors. We turn down stain-only requests when the substrate has not been properly prepared; that selectivity is why every project in this gallery held its color. Use the Residential, Commercial, and Industrial filters to browse by project type.

What is the difference between acid and water-based staining?

Acid staining produces the translucent, marbled color variations visible in many of the projects above. The metallic salts in the stain react with free lime in the concrete over 4 to 24 hours, creating depth and movement that cannot be replicated with paint or coatings. We neutralize the acid residue with a baking soda solution, rinse thoroughly, and allow the slab to dry completely before sealing.

Water-based stains offer broader color options and more consistent coverage. We use them for projects requiring precise color matching (retail spaces, showrooms, branded environments) or colors outside the earth-tone range that acid stains produce. Application involves multiple thin coats built up to the target opacity, with each coat dried before the next.

Surface preparation, more than the stain itself, determines how a floor turns out regardless of stain type. Our Pour-4-Polish discipline applies here: substrate condition drives every decision downstream. We grind or blast every slab to a uniform CSP-2 to CSP-3 profile, then verify absorption consistency with water-drop tests across the entire floor before any stain touches the surface.

Acid staining in Oklahoma typically runs $4 to $8 per square foot; water-based stains run $3 to $7 per square foot. Both include surface preparation and sealer application.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between acid stain and water-based concrete stain?

Acid stains contain metallic salts that react chemically with the calcium hydroxide in concrete to produce translucent, variegated color that becomes part of the slab itself. The color is permanent but limited to earth tones: browns, tans, blue-greens, and terra cottas. Water-based stains use acrylic polymers to deposit pigment into the concrete pore structure. They offer a much wider color palette (including whites, blacks, and bright tones) and produce more uniform, predictable results. Both types require a sealer coat after application. We recommend acid stains when clients want a natural, mottled look with depth variation across the surface. We recommend water-based stains when precise color matching or bold color choices are the priority.

Can existing concrete floors be stained, or does the slab need to be new?

Existing concrete accepts stain well as long as the surface is properly prepared. The slab must be free of coatings, sealers, adhesive residue, and curing compounds that would block stain penetration. We diamond grind or shot blast the surface to open the pore structure, then test stain absorption on a 2x2-foot sample area before committing to the full floor. Slabs that were previously sealed or coated require more aggressive prep. Concrete that has been hard-troweled to a very smooth finish absorbs stain unevenly; we profile these surfaces mechanically to create consistent porosity. The age of the slab does not limit staining. We have stained concrete that was 30+ years old with excellent results.

How long does a stained concrete floor last in Oklahoma's climate?

The stain itself is permanent because it chemically bonds with or penetrates into the concrete rather than sitting on top as a film. What determines longevity is the protective sealer applied over the stain. Interior floors with a polyurethane or epoxy sealer coat typically go 5 to 10 years between resealing depending on foot traffic. Exterior stained concrete (patios, pool decks) needs resealing every 2 to 4 years because UV exposure and Oklahoma's freeze-thaw cycles break down topical sealers faster. We document the sealer type and application schedule for each project so clients know when maintenance is due.
