Epoxy flooring in Tecumseh, Oklahoma: new slabs and rural shops
Tecumseh is a town of about 7,100 people just south of Shawnee, and its garages come in two very different kinds. On the north side, new subdivisions are still pouring fresh slabs toward the Shawnee city limits. On the south and east edges, detached shops and barns sit on acreage at the end of gravel and dirt roads. Epoxy flooring in Tecumseh, Oklahoma costs $6.08 to $10.17 per square foot installed, and which kind of garage you have decides most of the spec.
The Tecumseh concrete page covers new driveways, patios, and slabs. This page covers the coating that goes on top.
When is a new north-side garage slab ready for epoxy?
Not the week the builder hands over the keys. Give it time. A new slab needs the standard 28-day cure at a minimum, and even then it is still giving off water. A coating laid over a slab that is still drying can blister from below, and that failure shows up months later, long after the builder and the coating crew have moved on.
The root problem is a coating booked by date instead of by slab condition. Our approach for a new Tecumseh garage:
- Ask when the slab was poured and whether a vapor barrier went under it
- Test the slab before coating when the pour is recent, the weather since has been wet, or no one can say if there is a barrier
- Grind the whole floor to open the surface, since a new slab often has a hard, smooth trowel finish that resin cannot grip
For owners who have not poured yet, Pour-4-Polish puts the pour and the coating on one plan, so the coating date comes from the cure, not from a move-in date. On north-side new construction, we coordinate with the builder on pour timing so the cure window lands before the coating date.
How does Tecumseh soil change the coating risk?
It changes from one side of town to the other. The older neighborhoods near downtown sit on ground that drains well, and the sandy soils toward the Canadian River lowlands do the same. Those slabs move little, so the coating risk there is mostly about prep and film thickness.
The south and east sides are different. The ground out toward Maguire Road carries more clay, and clay swells when it gets wet and shrinks when it dries. A garage slab on that ground is more likely to have settlement cracks and uneven joints by the time it is coated. We fill those cracks and spalls with an epoxy mortar before the base coat, grind them flush, and keep the control joints in the layout so the slab can keep moving at the joint instead of across the finished floor.
Grit, mud, and the garage at the end of a dirt road
A rural Tecumseh garage takes more abrasion than a town garage. Tires and boots carry red dirt and fine gravel onto the floor every day, and that grit acts like sandpaper under a turning tire. A thin coating wears through in the traffic lanes first, and the bare concrete shows as a dull path from the door to the parking spot.
The fix is more film. A shop floor out here gets a 100% solids epoxy base, a full flake broadcast, and extra clear topcoat over the flake, so the daily wear lands in the clear layer and the color stays intact. A UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat keeps the floor near an open door from turning amber in the summer sun. Where the floor gets wet from equipment wash-down or rain blowing in, a coarser broadcast adds grip.
What does epoxy flooring cost in Tecumseh?
$6.08 to $10.17 per square foot installed. The system sets most of the rate:
- Solid color under a polyaspartic topcoat: quoted per job
- Flake, the usual pick for garages and farm shops: $8.55 to $10.39
- Quartz broadcast and metallic: $6.08 to $10.17
Prep sets the rest. A new, clean slab goes straight to grinding. An older one with cracks, oil, or old paint takes prep time first. That is how two floors of the same size end up at different prices. The epoxy flooring cost guide walks through each part of the price.

Was it the slab or the install?
The failure pattern usually tells you. Clean sheets peeling off point to a surface that was never ground. Bubbles lifting from underneath point to moisture, and on a young north-side slab that often means the coating went down before the slab had dried. Soft, raised tire marks point to a film too thin for July heat.
If you have been told the slab is the problem, read how to test an installer’s moisture claim first. The epoxy floor warranty guide lists what to read before you sign or settle.
