How much does a concrete patio cost in Texas?

Concrete patio cost in Texas runs $5.30 to $17.72 a square foot when we pour it in North Texas. The low end is a plain broom slab with fiber in the mix and no sealer. The high end has everything on it: a stamp, rebar, color, scoring, a wet-look sealer, and tear-out of an old slab. A standard 12x16 patio (192 sf) comes to $1,150 to $3,950 before the drive cost, meaning our trip to your place.

To find your own number, start with the base slab and add the finish and options you want. The quote tool does that math for you. The base price covers the dirt work, a 4-inch rock base, and forms. It also covers a 4,000 PSI mix, hand work at the edges, saw-cut control joints, and the cure.

Three things decide where your patio lands in that range. The first is the finish. Broom costs the least and stamped costs the most, with exposed aggregate and integral color close together in the middle. The second is the ground. Blackland Prairie clay runs through the Sherman and Paris area. It’s expansive soil, meaning it swells when it’s wet and shrinks when it’s dry. A patio there needs a deeper rock base and heavier steel than one on the red beds around Wichita Falls. The third is the Texas sun. Summer UV hits index 10 to 11 here. Colored and stamped patios on the south and west sides of a house need fresh sealer at year two. We hold the contract on every Texas job. For stamp patterns, see the Texas stamped concrete cost page.

Small patio (10x10)100 sf$700 to $2,350
Standard patio (12x16)192 sf$1,150 to $3,950

Pool surround600 to 1,000 sf$3,300 to $11,050 at 600 sf, $5,400 to $18,000 at 1,000 sf

Each row starts with a plain broom slab and tops out with every option added. Every total also carries the job’s setup, so the top of a row can work out a little above our per-foot range. The gap is widest on a small patio, where the setup and the crew’s day get spread over fewer feet. None of these totals count the drive or extra rock base on clay.

What does each patio finish cost?

The finish is the biggest part of the price you get to choose. Each starting price below has fiber in the mix and one coat of water-based sealer. Rebar, a wet-look sealer, and decorative scoring go on top.

FinishStarting price per SFLookSealer refresh
Broom finish$6.55Textured matte grayYear 5 optional

A quick way to pick:

  • Tight budget, or a utility patio or side walkway? Go with broom. There’s no pigment to fade, so the sun can’t hurt the look.
  • Low upkeep in full sun? Go with exposed aggregate. You see the stones, not a pigment, so fade barely shows. It holds up in North Texas heat without a heavy sealer schedule, and it grips well around a pool.
  • Color that lasts? Go with integral color, where the pigment runs all the way through. South- and west-facing patios need fresh sealer at year two.
  • A shaded patio and the widest color choice? Stain has the most colors, but it fades fastest in Texas sun. Pick it for shade, or plan on a strict sealer schedule.
  • The look of stone or brick? Stamped is the top tier, pattern plus color. The Texas stamped concrete cost page covers the patterns.

Where in North Texas does the price change?

Our price per foot is the same in Texarkana as it is in Wichita Falls. What changes from town to town is the soil, the base it needs, and the drive. Our Texarkana and Wichita Falls teams handle most of our Texas work. Sherman and Denison jobs come from our Southern Oklahoma team.

AreaTownsSoilWhat it does to the job
Texarkana areaTexarkana, Paris, Mount Pleasant, Sulphur Springs, Marshall, LongviewEdge of the Blackland Prairie, mixed with Red River bottom soilBase depth changes from site to site
Sherman and DenisonSherman, Denison, GainesvilleThe heaviest Blackland Prairie clayDeepest base and the most steel
Wichita Falls areaWichita Falls, Stephenville, Mineral WellsPermian red beds, not Blackland clayUsually the standard base

Sherman and Denison sit on the most expansive Blackland clay we pour on, so the base goes deepest and the rebar runs closest. On the worst sites, for slabs over 500 sf, we offer post-tension cable. That’s steel cable pulled tight after the pour to hold the slab together, and we price it per job.

The Texarkana area covers the most ground. One lot sits on Blackland clay and the next on Red River bottom soil, so the base work varies.

Around Wichita Falls, the ground is Permian red beds, not Blackland clay. Our clay spec steps back, so a normal site lands near the low end of the range.

What affects concrete patio cost in Texas?

Clay under the slab. On Blackland Prairie clay, we lay 6 to 8 inches of crushed rock instead of the usual 4. We also step up from fiber to #4 rebar. The rebar adds $1.80 a square foot. The extra rock is priced per job after we see the site, since no two lots need the same amount.

Tearing out an old patio. Breaking up an old 4-inch slab and hauling it off runs $2.30 a square foot. A thicker slab, or one with steel in it, can cost more.

Drainage. Low sites around Texarkana sometimes need a drainage plan for tropical-storm rain. A French drain or a reshaped slope around the patio is priced per job.

Slab thickness. A pool surround carries more weight, so it needs a thicker slab and more rebar. The quote tool prices that thickness, with a slider from 3 to 10 inches.

Sun and sealer. Integral color gets iron-oxide pigment, never organic dyes, on any Texas patio. Colored, stained, and stamped patios get a UV-stable polyurethane-acrylic sealer. We price the year-two refresh on south- and west-facing patios per job, after we see how the sealer has worn.

The drive cost. The online quote tool works out the drive from your address and shows it as its own line.

The patio bid that's far below the rest

On Blackland Prairie clay, a patio bid far below the others is almost always skipping the deeper rock base or the heavier steel. That slab can lift within two seasons. Ask the contractor three things: how deep the base is, what steel goes in, and what soil they found. If they can't answer all three, walk away.

How do you get your own patio price?

The fastest way is the online quote tool. It takes about 2 minutes.

Enter the patio size and your address, then pick the finish and options. Set a thicker slab on the slider for a pool deck or hot tub pad. You get an installed price, with the drive cost on its own line. Does your lot sit on heavy Sherman or Denison clay, or might it need post-tension cable? Then we come look at the ground at no charge and price the base and cable from what we find.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a concrete patio cost in North Texas?

A concrete patio in North Texas runs $5.30 to $17.72 a square foot with us, installed. The rate is the same in Sherman, Paris, Texarkana, or Longview. With a coat of sealer, a broom finish starts at $6.55 and exposed aggregate at $8.15. Integral color starts at $8.07, and stamped at $10.48. The [Texas stamped concrete cost page](/locations/texas/stamped-concrete-cost/) covers stamp patterns in more detail. A standard 12x16 patio (192 sf) comes to $1,150 to $3,950 before the drive cost. What changes from town to town is the ground. Blackland Prairie clay in Grayson, Fannin, Lamar, and Bowie counties often needs a deeper rock base. We price that per job once we've seen the site.

Why does expansive black clay drive patio cost in Texas?

The Blackland Prairie clay belt runs through Grayson, Fannin, Lamar, and Bowie counties. It's one of the most expansive soils in the United States. That means it swells hard when it gets wet and shrinks when it dries. In a wet season, that swelling can lift a 4 inch slab by 2 to 4 inches. When the dry months come, the slab drops back down. We make three changes to handle it. First, we pack 6 to 8 inches of crushed rock under the slab instead of the usual 4. That keeps the concrete off the clay. Second, we use #4 rebar on 16- to 18-inch centers to take the bending. On the worst sites, we offer post-tension cable instead. Third, we saw control joints no more than 8 feet apart, so heat and moisture movement has a place to go. Rebar on 18-inch centers adds $1.80 a square foot over fiber. The deeper base is priced per job. A patio built this way holds up through 15-plus Texas wet and dry cycles.

Which patio finish lasts longest under Texas UV?

Integral color holds its color longest when it gets a UV-stable polyurethane-acrylic sealer, refreshed at year two on south- and west-facing patios. Exposed aggregate hides color shifts almost completely, because you're looking at the stones, not at a pigment. A broom finish has no color to lose, so the sun barely touches it. It's also the plainest look. Stained patios fade the fastest. Summer UV in Texas runs at index 10 to 11, and we suggest stain only on shaded patios or with the same sealer schedule as integral color. Exposed aggregate is the low-upkeep choice. Integral color with a sealer refresh is the choice for looks, and broom is the budget choice.

Does Bel Covo cover all of Texas or only North Texas?

Only North Texas. Our Texarkana team covers Texarkana, Paris, Mount Pleasant, Sulphur Springs, Marshall, and Longview. Our Wichita Falls team covers Wichita Falls, Stephenville, and Mineral Wells. Sherman and Denison jobs come from our Southern Oklahoma team, and we take work in Gainesville too. We don't pour in Houston, Austin, San Antonio, or the core of the DFW metro today. The prices on this page are North Texas prices. On every Texas job, we hold the contract ourselves.

What does a Bel Covo Texas patio quote include?

Every quote includes the dirt work and packing, a 4-inch crushed-rock base, and a 4,000 PSI mix with fiber in it. It covers the forms, the pour, and a broom or the finish you pick. Hand work at the edges and around posts or drains is in it. Saw-cut control joints go no more than 8 feet apart. The cure and a first coat of sealer, where it applies, are part of it. Some items show as their own lines. On clay, that means #4 rebar (16- to 18-inch centers in North Texas) and a deeper base. It also means post-tension cable on the worst sites, and tearing out an old patio at $2.30 a square foot. Integral color, stain or dye, a stamp pattern (see [stamped concrete cost](/locations/texas/stamped-concrete-cost/)), and exposed aggregate each get a line. Cove or step edges, drainage fixes, sealer refresh at years two, four, and six, and the drive cost do as well. You see what each line adds before you say yes.
